At Rockin K Homestead, we are a small, family-run homestead located NE of Amarillo, Texas, focused on sustainable farming, ethical animal care, and producing healthy, high-quality poultry. We specialize in raising pasture-raised chickens, heritage chicken breeds, and backyard egg layers for families who value natural, responsibly raised food.
Our goal is simple: raise strong, healthy birds while supporting soil health, animal welfare, and long-term sustainability through real homesteading practices.
We are proud to steward over 10 acres of Texas farmland, where we raise our animals using responsible, low-stress farming methods. Our focus is on animal health, land stewardship, and humane care in every part of our operation.
Our farm is home to a variety of animals, including chickens, goats, dogs, barn cats, and a donkey, all raised in spacious, clean, and well-maintained environments. We believe healthy animals come from thoughtful care, natural space, and intentional, sustainable homesteading practices.
We offer a wide variety of chicks throughout our breeding season. Common breeds include Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, and Barnyard Mix (BYM), along many others listed under our breeding stock.
Female chicks are available, any straight-run chicks will always be clearly labeled. Availability changes frequently, so we encourage customers to check our Facebook page for a list of all current availability.
Our hatching season typically runs from February through September each year. Twice a year, we may offer hens and roosters that do not meet our breeding program standards but are still excellent additions to backyard flocks. Hens are $30, and roosters vary in price. These available birds will be posted on our Facebook page when offered. Please note, we do not maintain a waiting list.
We are committed to responsible animal placement and only sell to customers who intend to provide proper, humane care. We do not support bird flipping, fighting, or any form of neglect.
At Rockin K Homestead, we believe in supporting our local Amarillo, Texas community and strengthening connections between small farms and families. We work closely with other local producers to encourage responsible, sustainable breeding practices and to help promote healthy, well-raised poultry for backyard flocks.
We are also passionate about education. Our farm offers educational presentations for classrooms and youth groups to help teach the next generation where their food comes from. In addition, we occasionally donate hatching eggs to schools or programs on a first-come, first-served basis when availability allows.
Through our Rockin K Egg Bank, we partner with select nonprofit organizations that serve individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction recovery, and life transitions. This program was created in loving memory of our son and reflects our commitment to offering hope, dignity, and practical support through something as simple as food and new beginnings.

At Rockin K Homestead Farm, we believe in sustainable farming practices that prioritize the health of our soil and the well-being of our animals. One of our practices includes allowing a portion of our flock to free range, meaning they are not kept confined to cages. Our specialty birds are housed in spacious breeding pens to ensure their safety, as they are more vulnerable to predators when free ranging. This also allows us to maintain and guarantee purebred specialty stock.
We offer a wide variety of day-old chicks, baby chicks, juveniles, and hatching eggs in Amarillo, TX. Whether you’re looking for colorful egg baskets, rare breeds, friendly backyard birds, or future breeding stock, we strive to provide healthy, well-started poultry from quality lines. To make your selection easier, Rockin K Homestead offers four categories of birds designed to fit a wide range of goals and budgets:
• Unsexed BYM (Barnyard Mix) – BYM stands for “barnyard mix,” meaning the chicks come from our free-range flocks where multiple breeds may contribute to the genetics. This creates fun, unique, and often beautiful surprises in feather patterns, egg colors, and traits. Parentage can vary, making every chick one of a kind as well as combining the best traits of 2 hardy breeds. Personally, these are our favorite! $
• Sexed Purebreds & Hybrids – These chicks are sourced from trusted, humane hatcheries and breeders that specialize in safely shipping live poultry. These birds are sexed to the best of the hatchery’s ability and include both well-loved pure breeds and productive hybrid lines. Average accuracy on sexed birds is 90%. $$
• Unsexed Purebreds – These chicks come from carefully selected breeding projects using quality genetics sourced from reputable breeders across the country. While not sexed, they are bred to preserve the traits and standards of their respective breeds. These birds are typically best suited for more experienced owners seeking specific breed characteristics. $$$
• Specialty Chicks – Many of these chicks are sourced from trusted shipped-in stock, with a small number hatched here on our farm. They are typically unsexed and most are classified as bantams. We strongly encourage researching each breed before purchasing, as many are delicate. Because of their nature and variability, we cannot guarantee outcomes or success with these chicks and do not recommend them for beginners or children. $$$
Breeds in our flock include: Black Copper Marans, Rhode Island Reds, Red Sex Link, Golden Sex Link, Easter Egger, Turken (Naked Neck), Speckled Sussex, Ameraucana, Starlight Green Egger, Bielefelder, Buff Orpington, Olive Egger, Barred Rock, Cream Legbar, Welbar, Wyandotte, Black Australorp, Barnevelder, Welsummer, Ayam Cemani, White Leghorn, and Brown Leghorn.
These chickens offer a wide range of traits including brown, blue, green, olive, and tinted egg production, calm temperaments, and excellent foraging ability—making them ideal for backyard flocks and homestead egg production.

Our homestead is our home so in addition to privacy and time off, we also adhere to strict biosecurity protocols and need to prepare for your arrival. We answer texts and FB messages during common business hours 6 days a week.
